Last summer the decision to cut Mary Jane Watson out of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was made, even though Shailene Woodley had already shot a couple of scenes. MTV’s Josh Horowitz caught up with Woodley over the weekend at the Sundance Film Festival and asked for a status on her return as Mary Jane in The Amazing Spider-Man 3.
Woodley explained that her commitment to the Divergent movie franchise will likely prevent her from being able to play MJ:
“I don’t know anything, but seeing as how they picked up the next two ‘Divergent’ films, I don’t know how I would keep my sanity with two big action films in one year,” she said. “But anything can happen.”
The Amazing Spider-Man 3 will hits theaters on June 10th, 2016 and production on that movie is rumored to begin later this year.

I went to school with people who would have been a better casting choice for MJ. Shailene’s cute, but she doesn’t appear seductive enough to play her. The person cast into the role is supposed to be a person who lands roles on soap operas and does modeling. Shailene is not the kind of jaw-dropping girl that Mary Jane is supposed to be, and not to nitpick about Kirsten Dunst, but they thought sort of a carrot hued orange color was right? Nope. Peter calls her Red sometimes because her hair is red.
I would rather see Shailene take the role than no one at all, but I hope that unlike Kirsten, the next person who takes it actually cares enough to try for a good portrayal of the character. If Shailene bails on the movie, I don’t care too much. She can probably act in any role fine, but she’s taking on a role that represents a defined character, one that there could be plenty of other people to to cast for it. Maybe someone taller or less petite would be a good direction to look in.

They should hang crosses all over the set to ward her off and keep her out of the movie.

She better not be MJ. She would be a bad casting choice.
